We are committed to carrying out our business in a responsible way by trying to minimise our impact on the environment and by getting involved in the local community. We believe in ethical and fair trading and wish to contribute to the making of a sustainable environment by trying to reduce our carbon footprint.
Although we are a small law firm we believe that everyone can make a difference. This means we aim to operate a socially responsible business which has regard for the environment and that benefits not only our clients, our staff, and our suppliers but also our local community in Brighton & Hove.
Helping the local Brighton & Hove community is an important part of who we are. Fortis Law acts for Rockinghorse, a local children’s charity, on a full pro-bono basis and have donated nearly £10,000.
Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, and also support the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, based within the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The charity raises money for life-saving and cutting edge medical equipment, whilst ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.

We are committed to supporting local community initiatives and wherever possible we are eager to be involved with local community based projects.
The firm’s Managing Director, David Lawrence, is a governor and sits on the board of trustees of the Bilingual Primary School, Brighton & Hove.
We have also identified that we can play an active role in the community by giving students an opportunity to explore possible career options in the legal field by providing work experience in our various legal departments.
We believe in trying to reduce our carbon footprint we encourage our staff to do the same.
One of our objectives when we set up the firm was to run a completely paperless office. We felt that the legal industry was lagging “behind the times” in this respect by producing vast numbers of paper files which would eventually become waste. We are proud to say that we have achieved this goal by utilising advanced computer systems which allow us to keep virtual files. All of our communication with third parties is done via electronic means and we communicate with almost all of our clients via email.
